June Current Events

On the first day of class, you will be taking a quiz on the major news developments of the summer.   If you choose, you may post comments to this post about the news stories that may be on the quiz.  These comments will be most useful if you provide a summary of the issue & a link/links to relevant news articles.

  1. Although there is a fair amount of current news topics on our prerequisite paper, I thought that I could also supply some other topics that I've taken notes on so far this summer. I hope that this helps!
    1. Brazilian Protests (the reasons behind it and major developments)
    2. US calls for Russia to cut its nuclear arms supplies
    3. NSA surveillance
    4. Syrian rebel resistance and foreign countries' involvement (including the US)
    5. Indian floods
    6. Social media's role in Brazilian and Turkish protests

    - Edward Snowden (NSA leaker) charges
    - Protests in Turkey & the response by Recep Tayyip Erdogan
    - G-8 conference held in Ireland
    - NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan
    - Taliban & US agree to peace talks resulting in a strong response from Hamid Karzai
