Investigation D - Water and Security in Central Asia
Why should the global community be concerned with environmental and security issues in Central Asia?

The global community should be concerned with environmental and security issues in Central Asia because the ramifications of dilemmas in the region could affect the whole world. For example, several countries throughout the world such as China and United States receive some natural gas and oil from areas in Central Asia such as from Iran and Turkmenistan. Countries such as the ones named rely on these energy supplies to aid in manufacturing. Without these vast regions of energy, the world would be limited to a small number of energy supplies secluded in small areas of countries. This is a major reason why Central Asia is important. Additionally, the region is unstable due to wars over religion. These wars could affect the region by causing regions of energy wealth to be cut off from the rest of the world. This is why the global community should be concerned with security issues in Central Asia. Lastly, water scarcity is a major environmental concern. Without water, dust and debris covers the land and poses environmental and medical concerns for people living in the area. Dust storms may arise or diseases from potent water could ravage the region. If this were to occur, it could cripple the economies and political systems in the region. If this happened, the region could end up not exporting any more energy due to its lack to provide healthy workers. Therefore, this could cause disaster for the rest of the world. All in all, the global community should be concerned about environmental and security issues in Central Asia because this region provides energy to the world, and if it were to be crippled, it could throw the state of the world into disaster.
The world should be concerned about the devastating water situation in Central Asia because the issues affect how the world passes through everyday life. When dealing with water and how it, the circumstances are critical. Most people who live in Tajikistan do not have access to safe, easy to get water. Turkmenistan also needs water to grow crops which are a sustenance for life. Currently, they are barely receiving enough water to hydrate their own people let alone their crops. Turkmenistan and other countries that are in low lying areas need the water from the highlands which contain lakes. Since the water is necessary to life, the people of Central Asia will be willing to fight each other for it. War in Central Asia would affect the world. Central Asia contains a lot of the world’s energy sources. Without Central Asia, the world would not have access to their raw materials. Also, exporters would not be able to sell merchandise to Central Asia when it is in a state of chaos. In all, the world should care about Central Asia because it would affect the economy and balance of the world.
The global community has reason for concern with Central Asia because of the instability and environmental concerns surrounding it. The environmental issues are a major reason for concern for the global community. One environmental struggle that threatens the Middle East right now is lack of purified water. This is an important issue to address because if the Central Asian people all become infected by water spread diseases the global economy could implode rapidly. It is extremely important that the workers in Central Asia stay healthy because almost 80 percent of oil comes from the Central Asia. If Central Asian countries are not able to export oil the global economy will be seriously threatened. Another factor that could threaten exports of oil out of Central Asia is the security concerns. Because of all the wars that are fought because of religion the exporting of oil could be threatened. The religious wars are a dilemma in Central Asia because it could affect oil and other natural resources exports which in turn affect the whole worlds economy.
The global community should definitely be concerned about the water problems in the Middle East because the affect of these problems can impact the entire world. As we all know, the Middle East is the largest area for oil production around the world, them having not purified can lead to health issues for them which would later cause larger issues in the oil production industry. Also the lack of energy sources would be scarce if something should happen to Central Asia making it that much more important. Another problem surrounding Central Asia is the amount of wars that go on over things such as religion. These problems cannot continue to occur if countries like the United States want to keep using supplies from the Middle East they way it does today.
The global community needs to be greatly worried about problems in central Asia such as water quality and wars. Central Asia is the largest region in the world for oil production. they produce almost eighty percent of the world's oil. If there are wars raging on in Central Asia, the oil companies would not be able to continue drilling for oil in that area. This would lead to massive problems in the entire world. If the water in Central Asia is not clean and purified, there could also be major problems in the world. If the water is not purified, and everybody gets infected with a disease, there would not be any workers to drill for the oil. We use oil for things such as driving cars, heating houses and buildings, and flying planes. all of these everyday things would be impossible if the water was not clean and there was no security.

Most people know that Central Asia is famous for all of its raw material such as cotton, wheat, metals, oil, and gas. Yet the problem with their water can stem back to when they were under Soviet rule. When they used the waters that was for the Aral sea, and used to water the cotton fields. This cause the southern part of the Aral sea to completely dry up. This hurt Tajikistan, because now that took away its major water supplies and commercial fishing industry. Also another problem is that there is that there are constant wars throughout Central Asia. This a problem, because most of the time who would want to trade with a country in complete anarchy. These are some reasons that the global community needs to be worried about Central Asia

First, the countries of Central Asia gained their independence in 1991 from the Soviet Union. Prior to the break, these countries depended on the Soviet Union to control their system of government. Now, their governments are new and unstable, making it possible for the economies of these places to crash easily. Water in Central Asia in being used up quickly. There are rivers and lakes in Central Asia, but they misuse the water they get from them. Many people and countries over use water for irrigation and personal use. For example, the former president of Turkmenistan began exploiting the resource of water by using it for his gardens and water fountains. All of these things have contributed to the problems and struggles between these countries of Central Asia. If these actions continue, there is sure to be even bigger problems ahead.
