Myanmar: On the Road to Democracy?

After watching the videos, reflect on the status of Myanmar.  Specifically, based on the videos what is the current situation in Myanmar and why is this issue of concern to the global community?

  1. After watching the videos, it is glaringly obvious that Myanmar is still recovering. The videos on the blog show to me that the previous military government tried to instill a great deal of fear in the citizens. By watching the final video that was not posted on the blog I noticed that there was still a great deal of fear, even after the liberation from the military. The men seemed afraid to say whether or not they would start/join a new political party.

  2. The videos, in my opinion, showed that Myanmar is still working to be a better country all around. The videos showed that the government is not all that stable and the capital lacks "soul" or "spirit." There is an obvious fear throughout the people, and it is clear that they want a democracy. In the second video posted on the blog, it showed just how badly the Burmese people want a better country, and they are willing to go to great lengths to get it.

  3. From watching the videos on the Myanmar it showed me that the country is still in a developmental state because of the recent rule of the military. The people of the country are obviously in favor of a democracy similar to the U.S. but that is unrealistic because of how unstable the government is there. There are few people there that are happy with the way the country is being run and some feel unsafe.

  4. The videos illustrated the undeveloped and divided state of Myanmar. The governement is a major issue because of military rule. Due to the instability of the government, the people do not have the power to start a democracy. As a result, there is no sense of nationalism within the people. Some go to great lengths to begin the journey to change the government in order to create a better way of living. Others live in fear. It is clear that the country has much more to develop in order to satisfy and porvide for the people.
